“Self portrait” 1996

A large format painting, forty eight inches by twenty four inches; Hand stretched canvas, depicted with acrylic medium. This self portrait was painted in 1996 when I was studying for my visual art degree. The assignment for the portrait was to paint your self using a mirror, and a reference picture of a selected painting by a great master of art. Mine was influenced by the color palette, and contrasting light and shadow portrayed in the Mouling Rouge series by the French Master Toulouse Lautrec, one of my favorite masters. Choosing to portray my self naked to make the renderings of light reflection on the body more dramatic. Thanks for reading; More painting stories coming up…
